Is it really self-righteous and arrogant to be unable to look past things you can't agree with? Where do you draw the line when it comes to tolerance?

I think it's more that it's arrogant to keep an opinion even when presented with evidence that it's wrong - like thinking you know better than anyone else and refusing to listen.

I don't think you do that very often, for the record. You're usually pretty open to other ideas.

Well, I don't have too many lines compared to most people... I tend to figure everyone has the right to decide for themselves what they do. Unless it affects me personally, why should I care or try to stop them?

I've never been able to think like that. I can't be aware of something that's going on and turn a blind eye to it just because it isn't affecting me personally.

Why not? You don't have to actually change your thinking, but you can at least listen with an open mind.

Hence why we do disagree on some things. You're too much of a hero.

I don't think there's anything compassionate about forcing your values on someone else, personally. That's the way I look at it, anyway. I'm not talking about standing by while a friend is hurt, though. Something like that affects me and I'd intervene.

I think if you have the power to stop someone from being hurt, you should use it if you want to. That doesn't have to be personal power - you could ask someone, or hire someone.
